As people with multiple marginalized identities, this statement makes our blood boil and we may or may not know what to say. This is a moment that my client experienced in our work together and I describe how we responded to this moment in a way that aligned with my clients values.
Self-proclaimed people-pleasers have a special place in my heart. A lot of the students who I’ve supported as emerging social workers struggle with people-pleasing. I feel like it shows the extent to which humans can go to show care and protection for others even if it jeopardizes us in ways we know and may not know. I've learned that you probably don't want to be doing as much bending as you are so here are the 3 exercises to try.

We want systemic and cultural change to happen, like yesterday and we need power to do it. Many of us struggle with reclaiming our power, using it for good or growing it alongside others because we see power as evil. But what about liberatory power?

While the reason might not have been the "purest", it's still a valid way to start something. Many of us engage in social change for the same reason so I know I'm in good company.
