You might be telling yourself, "I just need to power through it" as you're showing up for a job or a task that is real hard for you to bring your full attention and presence to.
It be like that sometimes, especially now. But for those of us who KNOW what we'd rather be doing or how we'd rather be feeling, I wonder how we're allowing ourselves or creating the opportunity to do or feel how we'd like to.
I wonder what we need to do to get there, to move towards the things we actually desire.
Don't get me wrong, sometimes we gotta do shit that we don't find the most thrilling. That's not what this post is about.
This post is about discernment. Ya'll know I love me some Emergent Strategy and there's a principle that says "Be like water". I would say this push-through energy would align with the way that water pounds through a thing getting in it's way. But what if that's not how we get through, actually.
What if like water, we need to go up and over sometimes. How would we KNOW when we need to push through vs. when to go up and over?
Maybe we need to ask for help from someone or something around us.
Could you make a request so you're not pushing through a cement wall? Would you know that choice is avaialble to you? If it's not available, what would need to change so that it could be available to you when you needed it, like days like today.
Back when I was a supervisor, I remember a time when one student shared that they just needed to power through the day after hearing some tough news. Like you, she knew what she needed--- a break, space, time.
She didn't request the space or time but I had the power to give it to her, so I did.
Not all of us have or realize this power, but for those of us that do, what are we doing with it?
